Category: Let's talk
Hey gang, I'm working on a white cane project in October. This project is for one of the organizations I belong to. I have to be creative in selling white cane pins that you can wear on your shirts. I also know that there are white cane pens to write with out there. We're focusing on the pin and what it means. This is a fundraiser/project as half of the proceeds will go to the host organization and the other to the project. They want a new approach to the way of rasing funds and awareness. My thought is this: Web Site. I plan on working on a website devoted to the project. I definately am working on the layout. But I'd like feedback besides the history of the cane. Thats the main focalpoint of the site is the history and I'm working on that. Another idea was using photographs of me or someone else using the white cane. Problem is: Can't find a photographer, and I wanna highlight on the basic uses of the cane. I always found that something complex as this is best for those who can see images with the descriptions.
So one weekend in October I'll be in the community selling these so called pins. So I'd like to know if you were a sighted person - what would you want to see on the booth to get a good understanding of white canes? And also what would you like to see on the website besides the history of the cane?
If you're wondering what I was thinking for either item: For the booth of course selling the pins. But also put out a cane (I own two) on the table, and another cane standing up or tilted. Behind me, a banner with the logo and the said images I'd be using on the website.
My final question is: Who could I target as a interested person who would want to not only know about the cane but purchase the pin? I mean you can't just say "Buy a white cane pin in honor of White Cane Day. All proceeds go to the (organizations name) please show your support in purchasing one of these." without someone asking what the cane means.
All suggestions welcomed.
